Web Design courses

All,

I'm looking for a Web Design course to improve my skills. Within a couple of years, I'd like to be at a good level, with the ambition of working in a studio.

I found this: http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/t183.htm though I'm confident that this is too entry level.

Any advice of other courses or anything that would suit me?

Primariliy I'd like to get into UI/Website Design and then onto front-end development --> PHP etc.

What are you actually looking to learn?

What interests you the most?

• Web development / programming
• Front-end development
• UI / website design

You genuinely do not need to do a course to learn any of the above.
Even more so when you realise and are pointed towards such a wealth of knowledge available on the web.

In a commercial environment - especially in the current economic climate - potential employers don't care so much whether you have certifications and know the theory of design or development, they want/need to see practical examples of good, solid, modular design and development that clearly show your understanding of the fundamentals in your portfolio.

If you are still looking, we provide training courses in the areas you're looking. I understand that everyone learns differently. Some can learn online, but some like the interaction with a trainer and to be able to ask questions in real time.

I spent ages trying to find a course to go on. There is a paucity of worthwhile courses. I think most people are either self taught or have done web design as part of a graphics based degree.

I'm just about to finish my web developer degree, only two weeks now!!

I was kinda self taught for 6 years before taking the plunge to go to uni and be a mature student.

It's been tough going, I've just handed my project/dissertation in today. I haven't been to sleep since sunday!! Having a new baby, new job since Xmas didn't help.

There are plenty of tutorials out there but have found going to uni and learning theory, the building blocks of any design or development project well worth it ( I got in before the 9k a year fees)

It's no big secret the stuff we have been taught, every thing can be found in books.

For me it's been good. Some people have the drive and the patients to self learn properly and are really good.

Really check and understand what you want from it, check the prices and defo check what sort of person you are, this is probably the important bit.
