Presumably if they opt for .cymru over .wales, then the extension will become (even more) internationally pointness since realistically nobody outside Wales knows or cares that "Cymru = Wales".

Aren't .uk domains internationally pointless? That is, it is a national tld, not an international one. There is strong political backing for the Welsh language here in Wales, rightly or wrongly. My children have to study the Welsh language up to and including GCSE level, which I find incredible particularly when I have already chosen not to send them to the Welsh language school (where all teaching is in Welsh) next door.

There is another group looking at .cymru, though I would assume Nominet would be the preferred bidder against them.
