Web partner/team needed

So I'm starting to see that having too many ideas can mean that no idea really takes off.

I have a few sites which I think could do well but I need to redevelop them (design, content, blog... possibly a forum with one of them).

One is a tech site (futurejunk) and the other is an online husband and life support group (unitedhusbands) both .com

I can invest some time and money into them over the summer but it would be great to have someone else/others in on it to add their input/design and coding skills/ideas etc.

Just thought I'd put it out there so if anyone is passionate about tech and possibly could help develop the site with content (posts, reviews and later video, etc...) send me a pm.

Likewise if anyone could be a regular forum member of "united husbands", posting content and possibly blog posts - let me know.

So what's in it for you?
Well if 4 of us were in on a project and we all kept up with participating in the project then it would be great to each have a 25% stake in the project/site/domain etc. If there's 2 of us and we can help the project take off then I'm happy with equal shares.

Ultimately this will only ever work if there's a clear goal and expectations for everyone involved. Plus we all have to be interested enough and have the time to develop it and write content.

I do see long term the possibility for success with traffic, ad/aff revs etc. it just takes some time and focused effort.

Really odd. There are websites there. Nothing special (need a revamp).

Is anyone else getting these errors (both names above are .com). 403 errors could result from cookies/cache of old site.

Hey man. Yes I've also had those famous words of xx% of something than 100% of nothing. I'm not a coder, I'm good at marketing and online promotion but if I had techy skills I'd probably have a few hundred domains working now lol.

Another option is to throw little pots of money at it. Buy some cheap coder via peopleperhour.com and get little bits of sites done. Get some organic build up of traffic. Buy some content if you don't feel you'll write the best work and try and build them that way.

Will take a while but its an option. Thing is people (and I understand) don't want to work for free which is essentially how they see it. You have the vision in your own project and it's a hard sell to get someone doing work. Another incentive is to have a contracted agreement for payment of services at a future date. I've done that myself with graphic designers mainly.

Especially if they can do your work as a fit in. It's like money in the bank for them.
You might get something by speaking to a local uni and seeing if any tech students want to work on your plan as a project for their coursework. I've known people use that route too.

I hadn't heard of the peopleperhour.com website (will check it out) but have used vworker (formerly freelancer) before. I've worked with some great people and some not so great on projects.

Paying for content I've done a few times in the past too, varying quality. Even the good stuff seemed professional, just not interesting to read.

I'm not much of a writer myself, but maybe just need to work on my delivery (flow) a little better... possibly throw in a bit more humour?!

The 403 redirects should now be fixed, I deleted a lot of spam from the FJ site, and it now only contains 4 articles that I wrote in the last couple of days.

I'm keen to hear anyone's feedback about the tone of the articles without saying anything too specific about site or links to the articles (I'd like to remove all reference to these sites later).

If anyone is interested in getting involved with either the tech site or the other one mentioned above, let me know. Otherwise maybe I'll plod on writing articles myself and see how it goes... I could see myself getting into the routine of doing two a day and I'd be more motivated if I saw results (increase traffic, comments and adsense/affiliate income).

I think my problem is that I have never really created a massive amount of content for a website to the extent where I saw traffic, comments and income increase - it's always been that I have bought sites with content/traffic/income and then let them fall apart when I didn't have the time...

PPH is a bit of a ripoff on the whole, Elance i tend to find the same quality with a cheaper price. Half the guys on PPH claim to be from UK or States but are from India/Pakistan/Bangladesh which is fine if they charged those prices.

I think you would struggle to get any kind of traction with a 'generic tech blog' these days without being someone well-known in the industry.

If you chose one specific area, for example the raspberry pi, you could probably get a decent following within a year, some decent links and you would also have a much more focussed audience if you then wanted to sell plans/guides/kits etc in the future.

If you used a broad enough domain you could eventually add other sections.

I think creating an MFA site must be very demoralising as you view each visitor as $0.00002. If you have a very targeted audience and have an end product or service lined up then you can view each one as a potential $xx

Your best bet, if you want to create something slowly and steadily that ultimately has value is to pick something you're passionate about. Anyone can sustain writing about something "commercial" for a few weeks or a few months, depending on their tolerance level, but to keep plugging away in anything but the most derisory fashion for years requires a completely different level of interest.

So is there something you live and breathe already? A topic that you follow every day, that you keep abreast of all the news about? That way, it becomes an extra exercise on top of a fun daily routine, rather than a chore.

The advice to specialise (whatever the final topic) is also good - it's better to become an "expert" on a narrow subject than the 1000th person wittering on in general terms about something big and fluffy.

Definitely focus like a laser on on a core niche, I always try and target a core niche which has cross, side, down, left, right, diagonal and up selling potential.

Using Rasp PI, you have upselling on boards and hardware, cross selling on plans and components, but you can also go to the left with robotic kits, to the right with home control gear, down to app development to plug in, there is lots of scope to cover. You can even go diagonal to Arduino.

I apply this to all my projects, has to be wiggle room but focussed on a core.

The two challenges which reduces my chances of success are:
1. limited time
2. not a natural writer!

I've been working on a few posts over at futurejunk dotcom
might be a little too board but from the first iteration of the site, a couple of years ago, it is much more narrow (fewer categories).

I guess I'll see how it goes - if anyone wants to get involved, let me know
