Do you think there is long term potential for .in domain names?

I'm biased because I have 90 .in names, but I only bought as I think they are a sound bet. (time will tell)

India is the second most populated country in the world. Granted about 80% of it at present is impoverished, but things change and in the internet world they change rapidly.

The Indian government is rolling out an initiative that will give free internet access to the whole nation by 2009. here . A very smart move that can only boost their economy.

India has the second largest English-speaking scientific professionals in the world, second only to the U.S. here

Foreign exchange reserves have risen from US$5.8 billion in March 1991 to US$208 billion in June 2007. here

India's IT industry grew 31 per cent in 2006. This expansion will continue at a compound annual growth rate of 18 per cent for the next five years to become a US$100 billion-plus industry by 2011. here

At this growth rate, within 5 years India will be the largest based IT resource in the world, far outstripping the USA.

Does this mean that abg.in etc will be worth megabucks? They will never be worth anything like .com but I do think they will command a reasonable price.

I have put some up for sale only because i'm strapped for cash and need to pay a couple of bills, otherwise i would not be. But even so, I bought 10 months ago and already selling for a 400% increase.

I honestly do not think you will get a LLL.in for less than £500 in 5 years time which is a very nice return. (but time will tell)

.

Yes potential here I think, a direct correlation with internet availability.
