If your like me, this years goals/targets are all but done and your already starting to plan the new year...

In light of this, thought it might be intersting...

Are you going to be:

Mostly Buying?
Mostly Selling?
Mostly Developing?

Or are you just going to be chilling with your current portfolio?
Or worse, getting out of domains altogether?

Personally, I'll be focusing on developing/marketing my forum in the 1st quarter and buying revenue names the rest of the year...

This year has really been a big learning curve for me... Had to SERIOUSLY restrain myself at times from buying... LOL
Can't say how many times I've gone to buy from you guys and had to let stuff pass me by as I was still getting to grips with things...

New year, you'll be glad to hear, that's all gonna change...
So get ready...

PPC revenue is down so much that developing specific domains has got to be the best bet. Just ordered some agave nectar from website and reading that seems like she started in 2002 and now has her 2 products in all the supermarkets and more. Definately thats the type of way to go to make more money. As for buying domains ,will definately be much more selective in future.

Development for me. I've told myself to cut back on buying new domains until I have a site up for all my existing ones, but there have been one or two minor slips ... worth it though I hope.

On a tangent, and completely off topic....how many people here have their domains as a hobby, and how many have it as an actual job?

I've just quit my job to work on my domains (typically, my last week at work, my earnings drop, lol ) and it's all very scary....still not sure whether I've done the right thing or not!

Development - I'm going to be concentrating on minor development for all my domains, i'm challenging myself to make each domain earn $10 a month, believe me with some of my domains this will be very challenging.

I'm also going to have a sprinkling of bigger projects, maybe two or three large developments.

Parking will always be important for us, combined with sales (where the price is right). But I'm sure development of some key domains will be the way to increase turnover. It's much harder to find decent dropped/available names and we're spending much less time trawling thro' lists though most weeks a nice name or two can still be picked up but it's definitely getting much harder.

I wouldn't want to be building a portfolio from scratch today although there seems to be good money to be made from finding quality good value domains on acorn, sedo, direct from registrant etc and reselling or developing. I'm sure a newbie who worked really hard at tracking down a handful of good domains and knowing how to develop them would get a really decent living.

I think our time would now be better spent taking a nice domain that is not earning anything like its true potential and putting up a nice site. It's finding the right sector and affiliates that pay a decent return that would appear to be the hard part. We've got a few nice placenames/districts and some flight/travel domains that we have in mind but is there any real money to be made from the hotel and flight affiliate sites you see on tradedoubler, cj etc ?? which leads to the next question - if there is real money to be made from affiliate sites why are so many of the best generic domains in the world still parked up??

I know someone who owns a really nice xx.com domain which they park. It has massive potential for being developed but they have neither the inclination to put the time in, nor the web development skills - parking is the easiest way for them to make money out of it.

Well like any business venture you'd have to do a cost analysis, but i believe in a domains case this would be done on a case by case basis, considering volume of traffic, type of potential development, cost of development, ongoing maintance etc, etc.

If you develop a domain you risk spoiling the value, it's as simple as that. Then again they may just have so many domains it's impossible to develop. I only have several hundred domains and I try and develop a lot and hardly anything gets finished but I'm getting there.

Parking for me is crap, it means nothing. I've only ever had one real traffic domain and that was sexstation, I tried selling it on here for a few hundred but managed to get rid for several hundred in the end, at least someone knew their stuff.

Some of you are getting confused, retailers / online shops are called merchants, those who publish websites are named affiliates. And then there's drop shipping but I aint even dipped into that yet. Yes you can make money in any industry with any domain, that's why when someone tells you a domain is worth less than £100, develop it and prove them wrong, make it earn £100 in the first month.

You can make money on ink, holidays, cat food, anything if it's being sold and you drive good PPC campaigns or do good SEO. So if your domains are useless being parked, as invariably most are, then dip into affiliate marketing but not too many of you eh? haha

As for future plans, plans get in the way, especially when you're a one man band. Take things as they come, it's probably why I'm not a millionaire yet but I'm getting there slowly... business assets are worth a lot more than what they were when I started out. To me anyway.

My only plans at the moment are personal and you'll find as long as you have direction somewhere that business will cope and should cater for your plans. But getting back to the original, the aim at the moment is to

business:

a) cut down on buying domains
b) sell domains
c) develop domains
d) continue to develop websites already started
e) get in some quality time with networks and increase learning curve
f) find new partnerships with existing technologies

and personal

a) lose more weight
b) save up more
c) get abroad
d) enjoy savings on cost of living while 60% of the people in this country are still getting dicked over by business and government. ho ho ho

It depends how well, I was getting $10 a month from sedo for holidaysholidays.co.uk - your one stop destination so unhappy with that I decided to add a few pages and now do a lot more than that a month.
