Mixed feelings from me, I prefer the look of number 1, but I think number 2 will be a bit more flexible. I can see number 2 with the logo beside the text, or above or below, whereas number one is pretty fixed as it is, in that the logo fits above the text and has to maintain the same proportions as the text. Not sure if that describes what I think perfectly, but I'm sure you'll get the idea.

Number 1 for me with the white background, but not with the black background. I really don't like the upside down face of number 2.

Definitely prefer number one on the white background.. but it does give the impression in my opinion of a sports/performance car forum. From looking at your actual forum sections, the second one looks a bit tamer and possibly more suitable for generalised car topics? Not a fan of having the '.org.uk' included as part of the second logo though.

As an overall logo, number one certainly looks better, but I do like the speach bubbles in number two!

Looks like a stylised oil can squirting oil to me ... I think it has more pzzaz than number 2.

If you could change the upside down face idea, then number 2. I think number 1 is a bit OTT. I like the font, and speech bubbles in number 2.
