I'm working on a logo for the site I'm building.

Here are 2 ideas so far:

Which do you prefer ?
Or do you think I should make a more classy/professional/subtle one ?

Any comments appreciated.

Cheers,
Steve :)

First one for me Steve - but perhaps with a different font? :)

The first one is pretty hard on the eyes, second one of the two for me, having said that, I think you could come up with something better than both of them.

@ Alien - I agree - the font doesn't look authoritative enough.
Even though it's the union jack in it, it looks like the USA flag too !

@ Systreg - again, i agree - it can be hard to make out the letters initially on the first one, without tripping out first ! (although I don't mind the reflection effect)
The second one looks a bit amateurish for me, so will keep working on other options, and also do more research.

Many thanks for your replies and constructive feedback, much appreciated. :)

Second for me since the first is harder to see.

Edit - noticed that you said that you think the second looks amateurish, I think if you change what's inside the text (gradient effect) then it'd look less amateurish but I'm not too sure what you could use.

As a suggestion, how about using a crown instead of a Union Jack? It might give you more design options. Just a suggestion.

@ Jamie101 - cheers Jamie - see what you mean.
Maybe I can remove the gradient, change the font, reduce the stroke size, and play with other layer options.

@ Alien - thanks for the link - I'd forgotten I'd read that thread the other day. Johnny's portfolio is great ! Will consider him, as I'm no good with Illustrator, only Photoshop, and maybe a vector logo would be better for me.

@ Aegean - great suggestion thanks.
It's interesting - when I had the King Domains name idea, it was first thought of as a play on words regarding "Kingdom" - i.e. (kingdom)ains, hence the union jack.
However, the name King has since grown on me, so the crown might work better instead !
p.s. like the pic you posted - metallic style font, looks like good ol' Times New Roman !
:)

Would agree with the above. :)

Also, just a thought you may want to consider. I haven't looked into the legalities of using the name 'King' as part of a trading name, however I know there is red tape on registered companies using it without prior permission (remember reading/hearing about the 'King of Shaves' founder having to get approval for his brand name, although he did had the advantage of King being his surname).

@ WB - many thanks for the link. Looks like I'd have to contact them first in my situation, whether or not i was to register as a company. (Wish I was living in a country that had no monarchy !)
The 'king' logo looks like it will have to wait first, unless I just change the name !

:)

That analogy usage - is way over most heads (including domainers)

You could do far better letting someone (certainly not me) coming up with the right presentation. Both of your examples aren't good

@ Aegean - ha ha, love it :)

@ Bailey - I appreciate the analogy is far out there.
Need to use the K.I.S.S. acronym more, methinks.
Both logos are basic mock-ups, but there's no real substitute for a professional job.
Many thanks for an honest opinion - gives clarity. :)

I personally would also go with something like a crown instead of a union jack - I like the crown logo someone showed above (looks far more classy than a union jack) but another idea is to have a crown instead of a dot above the i in King.

@jj1 - i agree on the crown/union jack preference, and like the twist with the 'dot' - gives me more to think about, which is always good.

Many thanks for your response
:)

Personally, I see no reason why you shouldn't use your Profile Picture from AD, with the guy on the left edited out.

Ticks all the right boxes for me mate ... and it would certainly make me want to read on (in case there were any more pictures of Katherine Jenkins to admire!)

Remember .. all feedback is good feedback, even if it is of no use to you whatsoever!

Good luck,

Chris
