WHOIS Lookups

Admin, could it be that you've been blocked for too many lookups from the same IP?

Hmm, as bb9 said, I think it's very likely that they've blocked your IP after recording possibly higher than usual lookups from your script.

Try a standard whois lookup through Nominet's site, if your ip has received a temporary block, it should tell you that you can try again in ????? seconds.

Alan, I'm getting a no route to host error from your script which would usually (when I've had this issue before) my DNS server has buggered up. Usually can be fixed with a restart of BIND and/or clearing the DNS cache. I also found this resource for other reasons for the "no route to host" error... http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/no-route-to-host-error-and-solution.html

As for being blocked by Nominet, I found that very doubtful as more often than not they still allow you to connect before presenting you with a message indicating how long you're blocked for, but just incase it could be something along those lines, have you thought about going for WHOIS2 subscription? Would be far more suited to a public whois tool, such as your php script.
