I wonder why Google and Bing are in a battle to tie up with some of the leading social networking websites. Are they recognizing the importance of social networking sites or they are trying to introduce a revolutionary change in their search result.

I think it is a natural progression for the search engines to make. There's alot more people on social networks than there are folks who build websites or blog, being able to tap into the 'wisdom of the crowd' is potentially a very powerful thing (with the crowd including average joe, not just someone with a highly opinionated blog).

I'm sure there are various other reasons for trying to tap the social network market but that's the one I see being the killer feature.

There is no question that posting on Social Networking sites has a big influence on SEO for commercial sites.

At the moment, those social links are bigtime influences, because of the way the crawlers work, and because it is difficult to see how the crawlers results could be modded to weight the links without ignoring them.

If you want to benefit, here's a list of sites useful for SEO without paying consultants to put plugs up for your site:

BallHype,
Yahoo,
Buzz,
Digg,
Xmarks,
StumbleUpon,
Bleacher,
Report,
NowPublic,
Delicious,
Twitter

and there are a couple of others, but you don't want me to give EVERYTHING away, do you?

Well I know what social networking site is. But I am thoughtful about the way search engines are conferring importance on social networking sites.

Its about selling advertising. When Google failed to buy MySpace they soon after ended up buying the ad selling rights for well over 500 Million. It has always been about selling ads.
