Will .uk add credibility to some domains?

This is just a thought I had recently. The domains I'm talking about are ones dealing with 'official' things like tax and tax credits for example.

Taking the example of tax (I know some of these don't exist but it's just an example):

www. tax. co.uk - most people would guess this is a commercial site
www. tax. gov.uk- most people would know this is government site
www. tax. uk- ? Looks pretty official to me, more than the .co.uk anyway and so seems more credible and clickable.

Will .uk add credibility to some domains?

Yes you are right, especially with such domains as police.uk and nhs.uk in use. This issue and that of the potential for a cybersquatting epidemic were pointed out over and over again in the Nominet consultations on .uk, but they had made their mind up to bring in .uk from the beginning.

Think you're right with some domains benefiting more than others.

Aid.uk has a much better ring to it than Aid.co.uk in my opinion, looks a lot more credible.

I was thinking this the other day in relation to a couple of my domains (both for sale):

DisabledFriendly .uk sounds better than DisabledFriendly .co.uk
and the same with Personal Independence Payment but we'll see?

I wouldnt worry about domain squatting with .uk's. Nominet make people jump through endless hoops even when the .co.uk is not registered.
