I see that Wilton.co.uk fell to Stephen Stock. I guess that this is a relative of
the Jon Stock who has many names ?

Domain Genius.

yep, beat me to the grab... bugger! price you pay for multiple memberships...

Yep thats what I was pointing to. Seems that Nominet wants most
of the internet to be in the hands of a few of its own members/tag
holders as opposed to the general public. All I hope is that Nominet
raises the cost of domains to say £50 each and then we shall see
whether they renew ! Does that make me sound too jealous ?.,lol

wilton.co.uk is an obviously good name, so it was bound to go a good system, whether it was a fair catch is another matter.

The best names have high value, and will always be in the control of people with the deepest pockets. A tenfold increase in Reg costs would certainly shake the tree, but in reality it would only free up more of the lower order names, and probably increase the value of the better ones.

Drops seem to have stopped since Monday so there should be a busy day at some point, to catch up again.

Pardon me for being ignorant but why would wilton.co.uk be such a sought after name?

It is not exceptional, but more than 100 businesses listed in yell.com, and most other extensions registered, apart from wilton.uk.com

Based on my experience I can see good prospects for an early and easy sale perhaps into four figures.

There is of course a potential spanner in the works, but this is a risk with most domains of any value.

What I will be interested to see is when a new system comes
into being .Also I cannot understand why Nominet did not/do not make
the rules such that everyone has a fair chance ?.
It cannot be the aim of Nominet to transfer "the internet"
to only a small number of people, can it ?.

If you are speaking as an "end user" then you have to realise that the value of a domain is not based on the Registration cost, a domain is like any other commodity - worth what a buyer will pay. If you can't afford what you would like then consider cheaper alternatives.

If you are a speculator trying to make some money from domains, then you have to accept that this is a very competitive business attracting more and more people, and some with substantial resources. To be successful you need an advantage, be it experience, funds, specialist knowledge ....

Not so long ago the way to make "easy money" from domains was known only to a few people, particularly with regard to co.uk domains. It never was that easy, but now the secret is well and truly out. For newcomers, trying to make a fast buck from domains is akin to flogging a dead horse. It is still possible, but requires a lot of time, effort and ability.

Agreed, but what I am looking at is what happens when they
introduce say .uk instead of .co.uk or maybe .eu or someother
system entirely, after all you have to look at what domains
actually are.
