Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of using WordPress MU on a shared host? Any problems.

Been looking at hostgator and bluehost

If you're wanting to serve xyz.yourdomain.com as the blogs, you'll need to ask the host whether they support wildcard vhosts as well as wildcard DNS. Aside from this, as long as the host can run ordinary Wordpress you'll be fine. :)

Shared hosts don't allow Wildcard DNS, but with something like Hostgator you add each domain as an add on domain via cPanel and it works just fine.

That's not true of all shared hosts. Typically the issue is the wildcard vhost entry, rather than the wildcard DNS - but there are shared hosts that can provide both.

Some do. It depends on your provider (and to a large extent how much you pay ;) )

I stand corrected, my apologies to the OP.

I didn't find one that did, maybe I should have asked on here!! ;)

If you pay £100 a year for your hosting, you can't :p, if you pay £300 a year or £500 you'd be amazed what your host can do for you :p

As a point of interest, Evohosting as just added wordpress mu to their auto installer, so it can be installed and up and running within about 2 minutes ;)

I'll second this one! If you pay for good hosting - you can do good things with it ;). BTW, yes, I had a WP MU on a shared (reseller) account.
