Just in case anyone out there is interested the reveal of the Xbox 720 is on at 6 :D

Features looks pretty good, love the switching between stuff effortlessly!

We need more info!

Is it backwards compatible? or are all our bought games redundant?
Can we play second hand games online? Or is it the death knell for GAME?

....

I hope we can play our old games, I've got stacks of the things! yeah we must be able to play them

Update:
All Xbox ONE games.....

The company has now said in a statement that games can be traded in, but only at "participating retailers".

Games can be freely passed on to friends, Microsoft added, but only once.
"Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends," the statement said.

"There are no fees charged as part of these transfers.

"There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

BBC

That's the second hand Xbox game market gone from ebay and all small independent retailers. It is also shit because the trade in price will be set.

If Sony do not go down the same route I can see a large number of new customers.

I'll stick to playing on my laptop, old games work, new games work, and future games will work, the graphics are better, no additional screen needed, no internet needed on the majority (other than activation on a few), I can pass games on oh and slightly more flexible :).

The only advantage I can see for games consoles is the price is way smaller than a fully loaded PC but the disadvantages are way outweighing for me. Especially once you break into 2-3 monitors, Acorn on screen 1, Crysis on the 32" Screen 2 and pc desktop on screen 3, lets see ya xbox do that ;)

Lets see you do that on windows 8, only joking you probably could but I ain't buying it to find out.

Mircosoft seem to be losing the plot, more overwatch system control by them control and less flexibility for the users is not the way forward.

To your original point, I dug out Command and Conquer Zero Hour last week. Still people online and after doing a bit of research, still rated one of the best strategy games ever, even beating 4 of it's sequels and 12 years of software and hardware improvements.

Don't have much time for them these days but still cracking and well thought out.

Below is a great post from an intelligent ex Microsoft employee made in Feb this year.

Open it up to programmers and you would have a world beater. First company that truly goes down this road will conquer all. (and it could be apple)

My son has an Xbox. He is not buying an Xbox One. In his words: "it is anal"
I have to agree. Microsoft are not listening to their customers. They are listening to their game development companies who want to retain all control even after the customer has purchased. Pure greed.

It will be interesting to see Sony's new console. They are the pioneers of DRM so i'm not holding my breath.

If I buy a game on DVD then I fully expect to be able to sell it when I've finished playing it.

If publishers release the game on DVD as normal, then charge for extra content like maps, extra missions etc via online download...

Then it's in the publishers best interests to make sure that original DVD of the game has a healthy 2nd hand life, swapping hands as many times as possible in an attempt to keep selling add on content to as many people as possible for as long as possible.

I can't see Sony being any different to M$, poor sales of these upcoming consoles may well be the start of the death of console gaming.

Casual gamers will move to their tablets, ouya and the like, while hardcore gamers stick to their PCs.

The non-trade in model has pretty much killed the sale in shops of PC games - how many PC games do you see in retailers now? about 3 feet of column space in a huge store.

The Steam platform has done this to retail and it works very well - you can always download your games, you never lose your disc or have it not work because it's scratched etc.

It was only a matter of time before this happened - which is why shops like game are taking trade-in phones and tablets.

On another note - there's no way Apple are going to release an open console - they make the most restricted operating systems in the world, it won't be them.

I loved C&C Zero too - That was the only game I actually fell asleep playing..

I dont play a console much these days the past 4/5 years i have been playing world of warcraft on my pc off and on, getting bored of it now. Might look into getting a console again though.

I highly reccomend the sid miers civilisation games if you like strategy, can be addictive, start off at civ 2 http://uk.gamespot.com/civilization-ii/reviews/civilization-ii-review-2538424/. Also another of my all time favourite games are a few of the age of empire games http://uk.gamespot.com/age-of-empires-ii-the-age-of-kings/ so much fun :).
