Hi Banana,
I have found that one of the best ways to promote an affiliate program is to offer tiered commissions, so if an affiliate 'recruits' another affiliate they get the equivalent of x% of their earnings as a referral fee - and so on.

Well, we are running our own affiliate program and mostly we promote it through affiliate programs directories, forums, and social media sites. Even our affiliate program is based on 2tire architecture so our existing affiliates play the major role for promotions ...
