About the webinar
Nominet is running this webinar for members who want to learn more about the upcoming changes to its Dispute Resolution Service, commonly known as the DRS.
The DRS is the dispute process used for .UK domain name complaints. It provides a way to resolve disputes involving .UK domains without going directly to court. Disputes can involve issues such as ownership, rights in a name or mark, trade mark concerns, or whether a .UK domain registration is considered abusive.
The webinar follows Nominet’s announcement that the administration of DRS cases will transfer to the World Intellectual Property Organization, also known as WIPO, from 7th July 2026.
What is changing?
From 7th July 2026, the administrative handling of .UK DRS cases will move to WIPO.
This means that new DRS cases will be raised and managed through WIPO’s system, rather than through Nominet’s existing Online Services process.
WIPO case managers will guide each dispute through the process in line with the existing DRS Policy. DRS decisions will also become searchable and available through WIPO’s website.
Nominet has said the change forms part of the wider .UK Registry Standardisation programme, which is modernising how .UK is managed and moving the registry to a new platform.
What is staying the same?
Nominet has made clear that this is a change of administration, not a change to the DRS itself.
The following are expected to remain the same:
Why this matters to AcornDomains members
The DRS is one of the most important parts of the .UK domain name ecosystem. Many AcornDomains members hold valuable .co.uk and .uk names, operate as registrars or resellers, advise clients, or invest in UK domain names.
Understanding how the DRS works, and how the move to WIPO will affect the practical handling of complaints, may be useful for anyone involved in .UK domain ownership, portfolio management, domain sales, trade mark disputes or registrar operations.
This webinar should be a good opportunity to hear directly from Nominet about what is changing, what is not changing, and how members should prepare before the transition date.
