I noticed the other day that 123-reg are offering domain privacy on .co.uk rather than the standard nominet opt out: https://www.123-reg.co.uk/domain-names/whois-privacy.shtml

Is that allowed? I was under the impression you couldn't have privacy on .uk domains, only the non-trading opt out.

Had a quick google and couldn't see any other registrars offering it, so could it be an error, or have the rules changed?

Free Transfers

As large registrars now have "free transfers" they can easily put domain into another name at no internal cost.

It will also undue at a stroke the verification that Nominet tried to put in place about a UK presence for the new .uk.

Sad as it is undoing what Nominet were trying to do, which is to authenticate "registrant details", to make a safer and more trusted UK namespace.

The matter has been raised on Nominet forum but no response from Nominet on the subject.

Then it means that the 'domain into another name' registrant becomes the identified registrant and the poor sucker who registers the domain with privacy doesn't actually realise he isn't the true owner?

(Hopefully that makes sense lol)

Its in the small print that documentation exists to state they are the owner. Daily, 123-reg and a number of others all use the same company :)

Identity Protect Limited

Registrant type:
UK Limited Company, (Company number: 7407280)
