A fiver a year Takwa is going to make your registrar a loss. Find the cheapest price offered and come again? Don't forget to factor in VAT.

£4.57 at Daily.co.uk

Daily Domain name registration and web hosting from Daily.co.uk - Affiliate Link if you don't have a daily account already, then goto Domains, then Domain Credits 100 .com credits is 457 including VAT.

Basically you buy 100 credits and they sit on your account until you use them all up, maybe worth once you have a daily account using the 'contact link' in the control panel and ask them about buying 2-500+ in bulk ? Maybe they can go lower.

As far as I know they don't work for renewels but DO work for transfers, but my wanna check.

Not found anyone cheaper, well I have found cheaper but had a nightmare transferring names to them.

Loss leader. They actually cost £5 + VAT. All a convoluted ploy to sucker you in. And they need thousands of your doms to make penny on the £ and therefore control your assets. Of course transfer is a 'mare.

Well Daily transfers have all been a breeze, took a few in so far, none out but when it gets to half way thru the reg, I'll take them back out coz their renewel fee is £7.99.

The one that was £4.30ish I never actually got a transfer in as it kept failing, and one that was £4.50ish, you had to email them for the auth code to transfer out and SLOW isnt the word.

Your totally right tho on the suckering, but If your bringing them in and put X yrs on them and plan on taking them back out half way thru the reg, it works out a good deal.

When your working with profit margins so small for the registrar, you really should expect to work to save every penny such as transferring in and out :)

Lost? but with godaddy's code it worked out to be $7.99 used to be £4 but now is over £5

Takwa are you questioning 'Loss Leader' ?

Its an business term for sucker punching, usually done by retail stores.

Its the act of making something so cheap that you drag people in kicking and screaming, like asda did 'Blue Ray DVD Players £99.99' and each store got like 20 of them, but prob got 10,000 customers thru the door.

The odds are high that 8,000 of them 10,000 wouldnt have gone on that day, and that a few thousand don't normally shop with Asda.

The odds are even higher that while people are walking around looking for the Players they will buy something else to justify the visit, so they take a few grand loss at each store but gain 1000s of customers who spend XX.

Night clubs do it with draft beer, 99p girly drinks, we used to do it with cocktails 2 shots of alcohol+mixer etc for 99p and it was top sellers to girls mojito, screaming multiple orgasm, slippery nipple, blue lagoon, etc because women are notorious spend pennies in a club as they play the guys, a womans average spent per head is about £12 on drinks, where as a guys is around £60, mostly coz a guy buys rounds, and tries his luck on the ladies, and you can bet your ass when the guys buying she moves from Cocktails to WKD/Smirnoff Ice, so lose money on the cocktails but gain elsewhere.

nice but why would Asda try this you know people will just go in and buy the TV and leave, not going to work is it?

Skinner you should reg a "lost leader" domain, I am sure you can fix up a minipage in 5 mins with your knowledge.

Back to the main topic, any other company that can do .com cheaper than Godaddy? that don't charge you higher in following years or any other hidden charges?

Have you looked at Domain Name Registration - Bulk Discount Domain Names & .Tel Domain Name Registration Services ? their prices seem pretty low too and their renewel is the same as reg.

Absolutely ASDA, Tesco and every other shop do loss leaders, Call of Duty 5 was the last big one, Asda was selling £10 cheaper than they was buying it for so losing a fortune, odds are good at the men buying that game will bring the bird in and she will do the shopping while he buys his boy toys.

Also factor in now with GoDaddy the foregin currency fee that gets added to your credit card or debit card (unless you have got a Nationwide credit card that doesn't charge the fee and I think there are a couple of other cards that don't charge eg: Citibank) and also GoDaddy has been adding VAT to UK customers for about 6 months now.

So if you are not VAT registered, the cost increases as well as you can't claim it back.

So overall, once you start adding up the currency fees and VAT, the savings look like they are disappearing.
