Just a quick note to warn anyone thinking of putting out any form of press release or other PR effort on April 1st for anything other than a joke: don't!

A) If it's a real product/service, but sounds a bit jokey, then the media will assume it is a joke. Happened to some friends of mine who launched a genuine-but-silly-sounding venture on April 1st and 100% of the coverage they got assumed it was a joke. Actually set them back further than if they'd done nothing at all.

B) If it's a real product/service, and serious, then the media won't care as they're too busy scooping each other for the biggest/best April Fool jokes, plus readers are in a different mood to any other day because of the potential that anything they're reading could be a joke

So if you have a press release queued up for April 1, move it to April 2. If your PR agency is planning to publicise you on April 1, and they don't see sense, fire them.
