Most people here will probably be aware of ADWORDS from Google. A little while back I advertised specific names as being for sale via adwords. I had an email to begin with from google, but then they sent me a compromised AD TEXT.

Example:

ehotels.co.uk for sale
This domain name is for sale. Buy,
rent, or advertise on this domain.
www.ehotels.co.uk

The benefit to me was that I could parachute this advert straight into the faces of the people who might purchase it. Buy bidding on HOTELS for example. The added benefit was that as the advert says it all, no one clicked on it so it cost me very little, but I had thousands of impressions.

Downside. As you will know, if ads are not clicked on, they get removed. But only after a certain amount of time/impressions. The big players check their keyword competition on a daily basis. If you also take the ad off before it hits the limit, you can turn it on again a few days later and start again.

Google were fully aware of this as they were monitoring the ads, and kindly wrote to me about it with the revised text. I also spoke to google in the last SEO conference in Stockholm and they said it was not violating their policies.

Has anyone else done this? I’ve not done it for a year now, but I did sell five domains this way. Not ehotels.co.uk :-P

That's a very clever way of marketing domains. Thanks for sharing, is it expensive to buy words like this?

The most innovative way of selling domains that I have heard of in a very long time. Very clever - I expect quite a few people will read this thread and give it a go.

Martin

I suppose it depends what keywords you were bidding on. Of course "domain name" related keywords can be quite expensive due the competition, or did you
go for hotel related keywords? It might be an idea to try this approach via Yahoo or Microsoft Adcentre where the clicks can be cheaper.
