I recently acquired datarecoveryservices on .org.uk domain and I think it would be great as a business directory website.

I wanted advice from anyone that has run business directory websites.

How much do I charge for a listing?
Anything else I should consider

Thanks

LOL I have a local general directory and all it gets spammed for is data recovery services listings.

I'd get it ranked as a generic term and also locations around the UK then think about what to charge. You could even take leads and then pass them on for free to start with then charge.

Proof in the pudding leads to cash!

Thanks for your reply.

I did think about doing the leads option too. Have a 'contact company' button and I'll take the lead details, send them leads in exchange for cash, or give them the option to sign as a member.

If you are getting spammed for these services, then I will definitely need to consider ways of limiting this spam.

Is the spam coming from paid listings or free listings? IME making all listing have a paid element, even £1 for life, will stop the majority of spam listings.

It's a directory I was planning to develop and charge for but have never got to a stage yet.

It gets around 700 uniques a month has a PR of 2 and does ok overall for ranking with listings.

Spam at the minute isn't too much of a pain and I have to authorise listings so not damaging the site.

Problem is with directory sites is that EVERYONE is trying to do them and if you ARE providing a FAB service the ones before you have smoked and mirrored the whole directory type site. So when businesses do come across or are approached about this type of site they don't exactly have open arms.

To push this type of site takes a lot of time too.
