Dear Members,

This is a message I received from one of my registrars, which I thought you all might be interested in should you have any international TLD's (com, net, biz etc).

:!: Subject: Important changes to Transfer policy for non-UK domains

On 12th November 2004 ICANN will introduce a new policy designed to make transfers of non-UK domain names between Registrars quicker and easier. From this date, if there is no acknowledgement from the domain owner/admin contact within 5 days of a transfer request being made, the transfer will automatically take place!

While a great step forward in ensuring domains can be freely transferred by their owners, we are concerned that this new system could make it easier for your domains to be fraudulently transferred away (say if you were away on holiday for example).

I strongly advise that you make sure your domains are kept locked at all times except when absolutely necessary to change name servers or initiate a transfer.

Thanks for sharing that Danny.

We have some non-UK domains with RegisterFly.com who offer a free domain locking service so that you can lock down release of the domain without your express permission.

I would imagine other registrars will be offering similar features.

If you have any names with Registerfly, go into "Manage Domains" and activate the lock for each domain you have. A little tedious but worthwhile.
