Wanted: Domain Appraisal Another brandable to appraise please.. am I mad?

Hi all,

Please appraise Gadgety.co.uk. Am I mad for liking brandable domain names? In my opinion they will rise in value a lot with EMD's taking a hit on search ratings, especially from Google.

Your thoughts?

As a stand alone domain it had no value.

As with many domains like this it would need either mass exposure or a great web site on.

So with this, you could actually use any domain as it would be the exposure getting people there or the great site.

Absolutely nothing wrong with brands…. But they have to be that not just think they are? You need to do lots of research Concepts, elements, awareness etc many wouldn’t consider it without the com the, UK situation atm doubt many would be buying either …

I’d happily invest 3k for a guaranteed 1k profit in 12 mths or 30k to get 6k let alone 7k….?

Very hard to sell Brandables at the .co.uk level. It's not impossible but, they really need to stand-out and almost have quite a clever relationship with the products you see as being related to the term. The shorter the term the more you can get away with.

The trouble is in the UK, end users don't really equate "Brandable-terms" as a value purchase in domains. If your going to be Creative stick to .com and absolutely Nothing else

Imo,Your example. 'Gadgety' hasn't a chance as a sale as a uk domain

I agree as well but, Quite difficult to lay your hands on one of those these days..

One only has to view the domains sales at DNJournal to see what you can get away with in .com. Not in a million years at the UK level though.

It's not a bad name, worth only what someone will pay for it though, as has been stated by others in this thread it is difficult to sell a brandable name on UK forums.

I personally think that this will change in time, professional marketing people know that building a brand requires a memorable, catchy name.
With clever SEO and great content any site can do as well as an EMD.
