For at least 3 working days now I've not been able to login to nominet to access my 170+ UK domains on the SCHLUND tag. Causing me a problem because I have sold some of those domains and unable to make the transfer.

This is because I sold a single UK domain name to one particular buyer, the buyer requested transfer via 1and1 as they were a 1and1 customer too. I agreed via the control panel, but 1and1 systems then proceeded to apply his info (registrant type, address, email, telephone) to all 170+ of my domains!!

Nominet have been helpful but tell me its something 1and1 have to fix, they've escalated a case for me and speaking to 1and1 on my behalf to try and assist further. The transfer department at 1and1 have twice promised to resolve this saying give it 24hrs, which I've now given 72hrs at least. Getting through to them is a nightmare, and I have already lost 3hrs of my time trying to resolve with them. I've noted all my calls and time spent.

I'd like to claim reasonable compensation from 1and1 for them preventing my from going about my daily business and for the time and inconvenience - has anyone on here experience of this kind of problem? Would love to hear some thoughts / advice on the subject before I go speaking numbers with a solicitor.

Thanks

P

have you logged into contract.1and1.co.uk ?

Wow, now that is EPIC incompetence!! Pretty sure they must be in breach of contract there.

Can fully sympathise, I've been trying to transfer some .co.uk & .com domains out of 1and1 this week and their backend is SHIT++ Can't wait to cut loose from them.

Not sure if you've considered it but I opened an account with HeartInternet on the strength of some recommendations from guys here at Acorn. HIGHLY RECOMMEND BTW. Their backend and in particular domain management features are excellent. Free to transfer .co.uk domains over too.

I had endless problems with them and complained to everyone I could. Even sent them invoices for wasting my time (believe it or not this worked for others - 1and1 probably paid it without reading it). For me they didn't pay or resolve my problems or give any reasonable service.

In fact the more I got involved with them the more time it wasted. I'd say that if you can fix your issue through Nominet then stay clear of doing business with 1and1 then that would be your best bet.

Plus at any given opportunity, I let people know how badly 1and1 suck. But really they more than suck, they f-up so badly causing problems on top of problems. Then they keep customers in an endless phone/email loop between support/transfers/billing/complaints who each pass you back and forth. They did this to me while changing me for domains on the credit cards ever listed with them. And they were charging me for domains that had been transferred away from them months earlier!!!

The memories come flooding back - sorry about that rant :-/

Stay clear of 1and1

1 and 1 are pure scum

this is the sort of thing nominet really need to help people out on. and to be able to take a tough line on registrars

yes, any domainer/individual with domains at 1 and 1 needs to get them out, QUICK!
do a mass tagchange nominet end

then go in and delete your details from 1 and 1 account and remove card details, as it is still possible in 2 years they will still try and bill you! seriously

Hah I have a funny story with 1and1...

I bought a domain from them but I wanted to let it drop so I removed all my bank details etc.
A year later and I get some german letter through the post demanding I pay them for the renewal of the domain, website builder, and more.
I ignore it, a few weeks and another comes, clearly very angry.
I got my solicitor to send them a letter back saying it was illegal to threaten debt collectors and other such threats in a foreign language in England and that we would sue them if they continued.... no more letters.

Back on topic, take it to Citizens Advice sometimes they are very good (they helped me find my solicitor!)

i got charged for a domain that i cancelled and still after two months, nothing in fact they promised to pay me three times and still nothing.....
