Hi Guys

Does anyone else get annoyed by Twitter handles being taken but not used? I wish Twitter had a better policy about recycling old Twitter handles that are not used. The number of good ones that are taken and not used is ridiculous.

Not really, I've yet to see any case where someone has made money from Twitter.

Sure, a few celebs have been paid to advertise stuff on it, but they would have been paid to advertise no matter what platform. Are there any cases where Twitter has made a difference to business in a good way?

UncleBob have a gogole of social media influencers, many are Twitter based and most make a killing.

There are market places where Twitter handles are privately sold for decent money too.

I hate it when people buy plots of land and don't build houses on them. I could use them so much better.
I hate it when the owner of germany.com *still* has a picture of his cat on his domain when I would use it so much better.
I hate it when people buy domains and then don't use them exactly the way I want to.
Is this enough characters to get my sig to appear? :p

Haven't seen that before.
Quite a clever way of ensuring a direct response.

Yes, Twitter to the best of my knowledge says you can't buy or sell a handle, but I could buy that nice bic biro off you which comes with the handle for silly money.

Do you really think lots of these big brands just happen to find their handle available heh. (Edit: there are instances of rights where twitter hand them over, but this isn't the norm).

Most of these market places are very private but they do exist.

Don't you run the risk of Twitter nabbing it back (against T&C) if you buy one?

I offered 6 figures for germany.com several years ago just to start negotation. Not for sale. I have no idea what's going on there but it still makes me chuckle :p He didn't used to have banner ads on it though so maybe there's some income he will take.

I assume you have read the FAQ's.
Might also be a recent addition.

Yeah saw them but at the time I assumed it was just to increase interest and value. Turns out it's *really* not for sale. I remember someone on another domain forum once said they had hired a broker to get in touch directly - obviously nothing ever came of that.
