Anyone know anything about .ir domains?

I'm looking to buy a .ir domain name which I think might be currently suspended. Unfortunately the whois tools I've tried don't seem to be able to offer any dates about expiry/registration - not sure if it's because of the registry itself, character issues or what Can anyone help?

Also, I'm thinking of registering with http://www.irtld.com/ - is this site legit and/or are there any better options out there? Ideally US/UK based registrars.

PS Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I was originally going to post under 'Non UK Domain Names' but they seem to be all sales threads.
