Looking for a free text app I can send text from my iPad or iPhone (on WiFi) to another iPhone on 3G or WiFi.

Looked through various on the iTunes app store, some have SN integration, others have different features. Don't need bells and whistles, just text capability.

Don't mind paying for one, anyone recommend or use anything that's good?

PS: I suppose there's SKYPE that does this, but wanted something else.

Cheers!

Pretty sure whatsapp does this. I have it but never really used it!

Don't suppose these iPhones/iPads that you're talking about can be updated to the latest iOS? If they can you can just use the normal message app to send free texts to other iPhones that are also on the new iOS over wifi/3G for free :)

WhatsApp is great for sending messages between phones. It can send between iOS, Blackberries and other devices.

Whats app & Viber - viber also allows free calls and in my experience is far better than Skype as the quality of those calls is better. Only issue is to use both of these the receiver must also have the same app

As others have said, iOS5 has this capability built in for sending free messages between Apple devices... It's called iMessage... If you need to send messages to anything non Apple then I'd go for WhatsApp.
