Had a pretty crappy experience with them so far. Sim card arrived late, and days later I still can't activate the bloody thing.

Every time I fill out the form it just tells me there was a problem with the payment - no specifics. Worse error message I've ever seen.

Tried everything I can think of - different browser, re-adding address etc. Support agent is useless - sent a copied and pasted message directing me to a completely irrelevant and vague thread that simply said the issue was resolved. One ticket response every 24 hours is ridiculous - the guys I work with would get fired on the spot with that kind of service.

Community responses are basically 'try a support agent' or 'top up using a voucher'. Reluctant to buy a top-up voucher as if my card fails to work even after my sim card is activated it looks like I'm screwed...that's even if a voucher works in the first place :/ Is it really this difficult to get a sim activated with giffgaff or am I just unlucky? I'm wondering whether it's a warning sign to stay away.
 
my mrs uses giffgaff and she's not had any issues, maybe bad luck I guess.
 
My daughter and a few of her friends use it and very pleased with it, no problems that I am aware of.
 
use it here, along with 4 others. A bunch of us at work also use them. Limited by O2 signal strength, sometimes have issue with activation etc. but bear with them, they will tell you when there are issues rather than ignore them like the big guys.

£10 per month (soon to be £13) for unlimited internet is brilliant. I used 2.9Gb last month (! online radio etc.)
 
Maybe I'm just cursed!

Oh well. Bought a new camera lens to take my mind off it :D May have to borrow a friend's card and try to at least activate my sim.
 
Maybe you have a dud sim. If you want another one PM me your address - I have a box full of them!
 
They are cheap/great if you have no problems, useless if you get issues with community driven support.
 
Having just one payment card might be the problem. Doesn't hurt to have some credit cards or bank accounts in different banks. It will help if you'll need some credit or a mortgage later on.

Thanks :) Would it tell me before the payment stage that I have a dud sim though?? Because it seems to accept the code and take me to the payment screen...although they don't seem to know what they're doing so maybe I'm taking too much for granted :/

Good point, although hopefully I won't need another mortgage anytime soon! I think having a credit card with another bank would definitely have helped in this situation.
 
I was a bit scared of using them at first but transferring the PAC code and the whole process was 100%
 
I applied for a sim about a month ago and it never turned up. I didn't bother chasing it up once I heard about the price increase and went for the Three 30 day sim only plan instead - £12.90 for 200 minutes / 5000 texts / All-you-can-eat data - £25 cashback on it too.

More importantly though, what new lens did you get?
