One of our banks has just sent an email saying they have introduced apple pay, until this I hadn't even heard of it, says i can add my debit and credit card to an iphone/ipad/iwatch and pay in store and online.

What are the negatives to this? Not that I have anything to steal, but good to know lol

Just wondering how it can beat having a couple of cards in your pocket and a PayPal account. Wouldn't fancy meaning out of the car to pay toll road fees with my phone. So a negative is you can't solely rely on it so why bother?

OK, so one negative is that you do have to carry round an expensive device that could possibly get damaged or stolen. However, you're probably going to be carrying that device anyway, so you no longer have to carry your cards (once enough readers are around), and that's a positive.

I don't get the idea of paying by swiping my phone I have to say. I'm perfectly happy swiping my card.

The negative is its apple, and I believe apple are able to see what your buying and where from, which gives them more data to (ab)use!

I used the Apple Passbook (which is used to store the credit card details on the phone with Apple Pay) for the first time, for my boarding pass when flying with BA to Canada. Great I thought, no bits of paper to lose. It was very slick leaving the UK, gaining access to the lounge and boarding the plane. Then I got a thorough bollocking from the immigration officer at the airport in Toronto for not having any bits of paper to show him my itinerary!

The security is better on Apple Pay, it's biometric touch.

And hackable, if not easily.

The bigger issue for me is are you happy giving Apple your fingerprint? You only have 10 of them and they have to last you for life. What happens when Apple is hacked in the future and millions of fingerprints are stolen? Or if a security service asks Apple to hand over the data about you, will it include your fingerprint?

Some further questions for Apple from a US Senator.

Heh all I can think is giving Apple the finger :p
