Are org.uk's dead?

Would you reg a org.uk with 8,100 local exacts and £4 cpc with resell in mind?

Is it a case of only the most premium domains (poker.org.uk, gold.org.uk, shoes.org.uk etc) are worthwhile now in org.uk?

Obviously depends on what it is exactly but probably not.

2 years ago probably could get low xxx as a resale on here.

Years ago I'd buy it an put a mini site on it.

Now I more than likely wouldn't bother even registering it.

I only got into .org.uk after Nominet starting suggesting that the older domains would win the .uk.

I'm still quite keen on .org.uk geos. Would happily part with low-mid £xxx for good geos.

I'd be happy to buy a .org.uk if the .co.uk had gone and was a key word I wanted.

They rank well enough too in G so not sure about the negative of that area too.

My view (admittedly as the registrant of quite a few .org.uk names) is that .org.uk names still have great potential for community-oriented websites involving geodomains (as Phil mentioned) or areas such as hobbies and sports.

I'm not arguing the case for type-ins, instant flipping or mainstream retail terms.

To paraphrase Mark Twain, I genuinely think that reports of their death have been greatly exaggerated.

In context, I think they still have a great deal to offer, especially for simple one- or two-word EMDs. That includes the potential for some level of monetisation in the context of information-rich sites.

I've got a fair few .org.uk's and would still buy them today but only if I had a solid plan to develop.

Undeveloped they aren't really worth more than the reg fee (premium keywords are obviously the exception).

If you could rank the site at #1 then it's a much easier sale.

In June 2013 I sold labelprinter.org.uk for £x,xxx and that wasn't even on the first page. This was from an end user already in the market and wanted to use the site to add reviews of the higher end printers they were selling. Looks like they've only added 1 since I sold it...the rest of the content is how I sold it.

Yep that's one if I was targeting would register.

Obviously if a site was put on it you'd niche all the areas out with sizes - A3 A4 A5 A6 etc, locations if not for one town -Manchester, Leeds etc Types - Carpet Cleaning, Garden Services, etc and then all the phrases before like Cheap, Offers, Low Cost etc

That particular one is not bad at all and FTR as most Ext have gone.

As a task that could quite easily be page 1 of G for most of the combos i mentioned above and getting work for someone!

So ever bit worth registering.

IF the .co.uk is owned by someone who is going to want mega bucks for it, or doesn't sell, etc, then .org.uk is a viable option.

If you're unsure about buying an org.uk, then go to CrazyDomains and blow £0.50 on it. Cheaper than a Mars bar.

Two drawbacks -

The 50p price is only available on one domain, but seems to allow another to be regged at that price after 2 or 3 weeks.

It rarely registers immediately, and can take a few hours for someone to hit a button to process!

I wouldn't build an ecommerce site around a product keyword org.uk. For me, the org.uk would cheapen it and lower trust.

However, I completely agree with the others about org.uk geos. I think it works really well. In the case of a community website, I don't think the org.uk would lower trust whatsoever.

org.uk works well for community/local interest/tourist type sites.
