Auctioning Domains

Was just wondering, when you have more than one party interested in a domain do you ever use auction facilities? I'm talking about end users here who probably would have never heard of domainlore for eg.

I am thinking about running an ebay auction as the interested parties will have obviously heard of it and it means I don't have to go back and forth with counteroffers that the parties might doubt are real (who trust's people's word online!).

Anyway, anyone had an experiences of this and if so, how do you find it works best?

I have no experience of this, but I've suggested this to Domainlore and they were happy to take on any domain that already had an offer on it....

The proposed purchaser must of course comply by making the opening bid at the price you've stated.

... also cheaper to sell on DL than SEDO!

Marcoose I used ebay in 2003 to do this and it went pretty well. 10k+ sale. I haven't done it since thought...

Ebay does sound like a possible option i suppose, like you say they aren't likely to be familiar with DL and they will already know how to use ebay. Just remember ebay will take quite a cut and to set a reserve!

If they have never heard of DomainLore then let them know about it . I've had a few sales on DomainLore that I've told end users about who have signed up and bid on the names.

ebay will charge you 9% and then either you or the buyer will have to pay for escrow fees as well.

Sending them to Ebay to bid on a domain will either make them think that domains are a joke or that they are getting a super bargain from you compared to a lot of the prices on there.

I'd disagree with end users at least in a certain price bracket ? granted the buyer from a multi national might but if you have two multinational after a name you don’t need any auction site… Out of the general public end users which have they heard of and possibly trust most ebay or sedo etc

Sedo seams predominately other domainers and there likely to pay less and want more than an end user... I surpose looking for an alternatives for domains priced from xxx to xxxx and as you say yourself the sh_t on there at XXXXXXX prices may make them think its a bargain but don't we all love bargains ? Don’t know if I’d use it or any auctions myself but I cant see it being worse than sedo etc at least for end users ?
