Personally I think this is terrible. Did anyone see the Undercover Boss USA? There is too much chauvinism in the world and this is just one example of a lack of respect to women. Why is it that racism is bad, but sexism is treated as a lesser offence? Personally I’m fed up walking down the street with my girlfriend to be hooted at and even have guys touch her as they walk by. We have a culture where a minority of men dominate women and have no respect for them, beleieving that they have the right to judge, dominate and abuse women. I was previously unaware how prevalent this is, but talking to girls at uni I’ve found that it is a part of everyday life. For some, feminism has negative connotations, but I am a pro feminist – I respect women and feel that they should have equal rights. I have nothing against women choosing to work in places like hooters, but they should equally be shown respect and from what I saw of undercover boss they are not respected.
I know this forum is dominated by men so I hope that this isn’t shrugged off – I just want to make the point that in our society we would go to prison for being racist, but sexism seems to be a part of everyday life. In my opinion racism and sexism are the same thing - both are acts of prejudice against people because of who they are. Talking to my friends at uni and my girlfriend many experience it every day, whether it be comments from passing males or abuse at work.
There are many forums online of women who tell their stories, I hope that members on here look them up so that they can at least be aware of what happens.
