have a look round for nod32

http://www.eset.com/

not sure if firewall built in with anti virus software, so worth checking round.

very very low on system resources compared to to the big players, and first class results.

sorry didn't see the word "hardware", thought you were just after software :(:(

appologies

hmmm interesting. can you recomend anything :)

Dosent need anything special, any old PC lying around will do. Net connection goes into the Linux PC then onto your router/pc etc.

Or just get a router with a firewall.

linux as suggested by aqua is spot on... if you require multiple ip changes for hunting / queries etc can also run multiple net connections... cheapest and quickest hardwall you can have! nothing compares! you can even run a mod on any old pc from 286 on, only requirement is extra simms or dimms to keep up with the net connection you may run ;)

if you really want to spend any money on hardware (still prone to ddos attacks) try anything cisco... they were and still are the masters of security

I have only ever used linux and upto now no probs, might just have been lucky from what I have heard but for the money, or lack of it! A+++

What are you wanting to protect behind it? Home machines? Production machines? Do you have a budget?
How many machines are you looking to protect?

1000s of solutions out there but a bit more information required to point you in the right direciton :)

Craog

Can anyone recomend a good hardware firewall.

We like Netscreens but the market has moved on since. You may be able to find something now with ASIC firewall like the Netscreen but also including features from other standalone devices such as Intrusion Prevention (sourcefire) and possibly QoS (packeteer) and deep packet inspection (toplayer).
