Most of you might think this is a silly question, but I am a beginner.

Download Joomla and it said I need PHP, MySQL and Apache.

Do I need them or not, as I will buy a webhosting pakage?

Also what's this Apache about?

Apache should already be installed on their [web hosting company] server, just check that php and mysql is enabled - it should be with most decent packages.

Its a whole lot easier the first time to host with someone that has Fantastico installed.

Then, with 2 clicks of a button, you have Joomla installed.

Thanks guys for the information, I guess I will make a start on my minisites using Joomla.

If you want to develop on your desktop machine before uploading, checkout XAMPP or WAMPP - there are several self-installing packages that setup everything you need (Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc) on your Windows machine for you. You can then play with it and make mistakes without worrying about affecting your live website

Cheers, Jon
