Wanted: Domain Appraisal Bothy.com

I'm a bit shy of asking another, as I don't know the protocol of how often one person should be asking, but I'm curious...

How much do you think this domain might sell for:

Bothy.com

It's a 5-letter .com generic.

It has a certain aura of the wilds, the mountains, and the outdoors.

But on the down side, I guess the reason I managed to pick it up (I seem to remember it was a standard registration price via Snapnames with no rival bid) is because it's not really current or in usage in the US.

In addition, it's a bit of a minority, niche name. I mean, loads of people DO enjoy the tradition of bothy music and ceilidhs, and lots of outdoor types in Scotland use the mountain bothies. But I'd guess it is a niche.

The reason I wonder if it has potential is because the environment, the outdoors, adventure sports, mountaineering etc are a real market, and for companies marketing outdoor clothing, or rucksacks, or equipment, or outdoor activities and trips, or country cottages... then it could be built as a useful, catchy, memorable com website or even new brand name.

But that's me talking up, maybe beyond the important levels of realism. What do you realistically think?

Oh yeah, I meant to say, it would make quite a good forum website. Sort of 'step through the doors and into the Bothy, have a dram, have a chat, pull a chair up by the fire'... a sort of romantic feel for a forum, though what people discussed there could range from anything from politics to whisky to music, with a 'room upstairs' for the people who want to talk more intimately...

Not in the same league as the other domains you've asked for appraisals on so far ...

Think your about ten years too late with that idea lol

Pretty hard to monetise a bothy seeing as the idea is they are free to use.

£200-250 unless you Market it to people in the Scottish tourist industry

At that price level, I'd definitely keep it for my own poems and photos because I really like the name - it's my favourite!

And, setting aside the domain business, there's a dimension to domains which can be simply personal, recreational and fun.
