Hi, a few questions for you.

Has any one bought a domain based on traffic?
Did the traffic continue once you took ownship?
If not, why do you think this was?
What tools did you use to verify this traffic?
Have you got any tips you can share with us on maintaining this traffic when acquiring a domain.

many thanks

BAZ

Hi BAZ,

Yes, done that, also bought dropped domains with PR.

In most cases I've managed to keep the traffic and PR.

What I've done is to check on WayBackMachine to see what the old site was, and to see what copy I can use on the new site. My logic (??!!) is that if the main search engines see v.similar content, page names etc, they are more likely see it as a redesign.

What I also do is to check what Google has cached for the domain. If it has the original site cached all the better, if not and it has the domain parking page all is not lost, but it is a more of a risk.

At the end of the day it's down to how much you have to pay for the name, time to rebuild etc against project value.

After a month, and some visits by the main search engines, I'll start updating the site - nice and steady.

Best,

VSC
