Hello,

Just wondering if I can be competitive by just using other people's drop catching services?

Is there a list of available public services?

Also, where is the most complete list of dropping domains. Do some people have private lists that they use (I assume they do) - but what are the best public ones (I already know of DomainView)?

Thanks

Wouldn’t even waste your time going after premium ones that’s not to say you couldn’t sell other names caught but chances are public catcher will already be going after them themselves private can dedicate there entire effort on one name go in partnership with others to have a bigger stab etc corporate like 123 reg etc backorders never heard of them catching anything really premium. Domain lore do list one of the better free to all But remember would you give a compressive insight into what your going after to your competition…?

I would say yes

IF you can book the domains with them, usually you wont be able to.

But if you can book first sites like dropsystem, domainview (you don't need to book first but catches will go to auction between those who booked it), dbcatch, dacr, domainmonster, they are all capable of catching great domains In my short experience & from what I've seen.

domainview recently caught linked.co.uk

dropsystem caught a 3 letter .co.uk yesterday

etc

So again it is possible, but only if you can get there before they're booked which is tough.

It is a breach of nominets terms and conditions for tagholders to 'partner' up for a catch. Whether it's a large registrar like 123reg or a private catcher they get the same 432,000 quota each per day.

Yes and everyone follows noms rules ??

Quota the same not necessarily software? number of names booked, number of times attempted Wonder how many individual names 123 reg go for each time? which they try first, last, the time they start hourly, minute,in the first few hours etc maybe they have caught premium ones anyone know of any.The cynic might say if 123 reg caught premiums they’d be shouting it from the roof tops... They do post on here so they could lets everyone know

Just be realistic of expectations I'd say go with private independent catcher's over likes of 123 everytime ? Sometimes you don't always get what you pay for with corperates?

So how can you be the first to book? Are people using their own private lists of which domains are dropping?

That's what I did for many years successfully, before we gave up drop catching almost exactly a year ago. We had our own in-house lists of approx. 120,000 generic words and phrases, selected for potential commercial value. It meant we wouldn't even notice a lot of stuff that dropped, but the flipside is that at times we were getting up to 50% of everything we went for because we were able to book with public catchers 2-4 weeks ahead of "public" drop lists being published.

Those lists of terms took ages and ages to build up - I literally added a hundred or so phrases a day by hand every day for years! The benefit is that there's zero "fluff" - everything that makes it onto a list is something that is theoretically "worth" catching so there's no "should we book this one or not" decision to take.

I'd go independent rather than with the big guns. I personally wouldn't give the big guns a chance to compete for a name I want to catch ... but in the end, it depends on how badly you want that particular name and how much you are willing to pay for it.

Another thing to note is a lot of good domains go right down to the last day before they drop.. then they get renewed because they're owned by (I assume) a domainer.

Tomorrow for instance I would have liked to of gotten filmreview as it was due to drop.. but, was renewed today.

I actually saw that too.

I have also read that you need a decent script to be competitive. I suppose there's no point doing it if you don't have a good script too?
