can owner renew his domain on redemption period?

I saw someone was selling a domain on Ebay, checked whois and it's on redemption period.

I asked the seller, and he replied "I own the domain name but it ran out, so I will register it again if someone buys it and transfer ownership"

What I want to know is can it be done? and you get charge loads if you miss your renewal?

Yes, when its in redemption you can renew it. $160 + normal domain renewal fees iirc!

The fee will depend on the registrar. The registries charge X, but the registrars bump it up by varying amounts. $160 sounds like eNom's price
