2 hyphens = 2 many mate
90k exacts is good but 2 hyphens, maybe convince an end user to buy

I build wordpress blogs and use google news for auto content

I always prefer direct quotes to make sure the feed content is relevant

not enough news for "car seat covers" but "seat covers" is good

using google blog search with the quotes for "car seat covers" is really good

I always try and get at least 5 categories working with auto content from google news - but it could be difficult for your topic

example site:
Life Insurance

This domain brings up the problem with hyphens. It has just been said that 2 hyphens is two ,too many. Yet my computer experts, whom I deal with on a daily basis, are adamant that search engine spiders find words much easier if they are hyphenated. The reason is simple. They are much clearer. IwouldnotwritethisletterwiththewordsallstrungtogetherlikethiswouldI.Itisnonsense.
Get the picture? How easy was it to read that? So how do you expect a MACHINE to know where one word ends and the other begins?
I have a great many hyphenated "visit" domains, yet they are being rubbished by people because of the hyphens. Yet, if you put "visit dubai" into GoogleUK ,I am TOP!! If you put it into Google.com , I am second !!
The hyphen never stopped that term getting to the top;indeed they may well have assisted it!!
I honestly believe that the unpopularity of hyphens stems from its lack of use in the USA,where the internet commenced. I don't think the hyphen is as prevalent in American grammar as it is in Europe. Hyphenated UK place-names [hyphenated!] like Stratford-upon-Avon are quite common. Where are they in the USA? Similarly, the hyphen is popular in the grammar of France and Spain. I see many hyphenated domains in Paris.
I honestly think that this internet business needs to grow up and face the reality of INTERNATIONAL grammar, not the prejudices of the American market and American culture.
Triple word domains without hyphens are particularly confusing. I KNOW that it is got over by placing a capital letter at the start of every word......but how easy can the spider sort it out.......particularly when it is mainly typed without a capital.
I don't expect "dyed-in-the-wool" [ more correct hyphens]domainers to agree with me, because many are wearing blinkers . All they see is the status quo set out in America. Well!! The internet has now travelled much further than the 300 million people of the USA ; it is now in the domain [correctly used ] of the 6500million disparate people and cultures of this planet.
Before I am shot down, I will say that I obtained 75 per cent in my
O Level English Language paper in 1963 , when marking was far more thorough and stringent than today. Grammar and punctuation meant something in those days.

Is there a single post you have made where you are not promoting your domains?

Maybe visitcarseatcovers.co.uk would have been better :p

Before someone points it out, I have left out a couple of punctuation marks in the above, and made a grammatical error by not checking before posting.
car-seat-covers.co.uk is a clear-cut [another legitimate hyphen ] phrase .
Print it as one word without capitals and one has carseatcovers.co.uk .
That COULD read as CARS EAT COVERS !! Hilarious!!
So, which is clearer?? What about the spiders?

I am not promoting my domains, I making the point about the rampant prejudice against hyphens, which you fail to address at all. Does that mean you have no logical answer to the main point of my argument?
I provided EVIDENCE that a hyphenated domain could get to the TOP . Instead of debating that , you have attacked me. How else do I personally prove that a hyphenated domain can get to the top of Google? Why don't you discuss internet spiders and hyphens instead of replying in this fashion?

Redkite, just spam the hell out of your signature then you can leave the other people's threads alone.

What are you talking about? I have made a legitimate observation about this man's hyphenated domain, which contains two hyphens. You are not prepared to discuss my arguments at all . Why is that? What useful contribution have you made to car-seat-covers.co.uk ?
Without citing EVIDENCE of the usefulness of hyphens, how does one PROVE one's arguments? I have given this domain LOGICAL ,REASONED SUPPORT....and expanded the general argument on hyphens......because THAT has been the main criticism of this domain.
What have you achieved on this thread?

James,

Ha ! Ha ! Ha! Amazing !!!
I string a few words together to prove a point about the illegibility of too many strung-together words and you whinge!!

Yet you will probably promote domain names with 3 or 4 strung-together words!!

The contradictions in your argument are plain to see. I see that you cannot answer the main discussion point either. You resolutely avoid that in favour of some childish bickering.

Why can't you enter an ADULT discussion regarding the merits of hyphenated words, as put forward by this domain name?
Now, if you are referring to the spaces between the lines themselves, what is the problem? My words are written as you would find them in any magazine or book.
Do you have poor eyesight? Maybe I'm lucky ! I've had this pair of eyes now, for 62 years , and I do not need glasses for ANYTHING ......SHORT or LONG DISTANCE!!!
I work 7 days a week at my 3 businesses and write on the computer until 3am generally, without any eye-strain . My next day off is in November. I only sleep 5 hours a day........enough for any man ! The country's full of lazy people who are incapable of working a 70 hour week.

When they handed the eyes out, I must have been in the front of the queue!! Would CAPITALS suit your eyesight better?

I'll keep an eye out for your postings , in future !

Who are these computer experts, and if they are so expert, why are they working for/with you?

By that logic you did no schooling on computers therefore your knowledge and basis is nil nada zero 0%.

But that would be a stupid analogy...zzzzzzzz

Right, time to step in!

I don't do SEO work now - but I did for 10 years

going back a few years, search engines couldn't recognise keywords within larger words - in your case carseatcovers would be meaningless rubbish but car-seat-covers would be recognised as car, seat, covers, car seat, seat covers - i.e. all permutations of the individual words as the hyphen acts as a space and an underscore does not

at that time I advised clients to take both forms of the domain - and have duplicate content on both sites - one site for the search engines - one site for business cards, print brochures, telephone enquiries, etc.

ever tried to give out a multi word domain name with hyphens over the phone - especially to a foreign client?

for the past few years the search engines have been able to "see" the individual keywords in a joined-up string of words - so its now is a matter of register both (but don't use duplicate content), buy the joined up name if the words can be easily recognised, buy the hyphonated name if the joined up one has gone - or whatever your tastes or prejudices dictate

I suppose it also depends on what you plan to do with the domain - high street names don't want hyphens - its not ice-land.co.uk or pc-world.co.uk

This forum is getting steadily worse.

As for the domain, hyphens or not its less than reg-fee.

Does anyone actually make let alone sell car seat covers any more?

Oi Fivestars - listen up and learn something

go to google external keyword tool and enter "car seat covers" in the search box using "exact" in the match type box

look at that list of search phrases people are using - and how much advertisers are paying

next type "car seat covers" into google search - and look at how many advertisers there are

there is a market for car seat covers - whether you like it or not

Firestars - don't point out me calling you Fivestars - I was being sarcastic

Regardless of this name because I haven't a clue about hyphens or car seats, but if you are going to teach people then we need to see examples of some of your successes mate. I know of Firestars purchases and sales.

Just so we can put them into some kind of context....
