I just got this in email...

Dear WHOIS2 subscriber,

On Tuesday 23 June 2009 at 10:00am we will be relocating our WHOIS server.
This process will not result in any downtime.

The majority of customers connect to our WHOIS server using the domain
name whois.nic.uk and will not experience any service disruption. We
understand however, that a small number of customers may establish their
WHOIS connection using the server IP address. If this is the case, at
10:00am on 23 June, you will need to reconfigure your connection using the
new IP address which will be 213.248.201.163

Further information about WHOIS2 is available on our web site:

Nominet UK

Thought maybe useful for other people who didnt get it.

I wonder if this locational change, will result in catching servers slowing ? (I assume both database and whois are located in the same place).

A check now shows that whois.nic.uk resolves to 213.248.210.12 so I assume thats the previous to be replaced.

I never even thought of checking it :p

Tracing route to whois.nic.uk [213.248.210.12]
3 fe1-1-nom-col1.nominet.org.uk [195.66.224.61] reports: Destination net unreachable.
Trace complete.

I wonder if that will affect people who have tried to secure servers as "close" to Nominet as they could get them - perhaps they're relocating the Whois to a different hosting facility...
