The problem at the moment is blu-ray's tend to be £6-£10 more than the equivalent DVD, pretty much like it was between DVD and VHS initially. The difference of course with DVD vs VHS was obvious, but to be honest, I can't see a big enough difference between DVD and blu-ray to justify the extra cash most of the time.
I do tend to rent blu-rays though as they cost the same as DVD's.
Adoption rates would increase IMHO should the difference in price be reduced or eliminated. I can also see blu-ray adoption increasing with 3D, if it's not just a load of hype and we don't have to sit there wearing stupid glasses from the 80's.
Only problem I see with "cheapXXX" is exactly that, it's "cheap". Consumers searching for cheap products are so price sensitive that if it costs a few pence more than somewhere else, you don't get the sale, plus from an affiliate perspective, commissions I would have thought are going to be pence, which means (depending on what you paid) you need volume in a highly competive market with well established brands to get a decent ROI.
Just my 2p worth...
