Google Trends

Google Trends is a good place to start. Here's an example Google Trends
If it's in there then it's searched for quite a lot.

Hmmm this is a tough one for me.

As it is based around "christmas" then the site is pretty much obselete for 9-10 months of the year in my opinion.

I have a loan site which is very very busy around christmas time but dead all the year around (yes it is a christmas loans website)

I really like the domain name, but find it hard to put a value on it

My estimate would be low £x,xxx to the right seller at a push :)

I think domainseller200 is spot on i like the name and think the value is right good luck with it

Some products 'I feel' don't translate that well to online sales and xmas cards being of very low value are one that people would tend to get locally rather than online, albeit you can get custom and high end value cards printed but that removes the mass market.

Extremely seasonal obviously so a hard one to find an owner for at a decent price.

Try selling it at Christmas the price should go up

Only problem with that is the buyer is 12 months away from doing anything with it, a savy buyer would buy it now to be ready for Dec.

exactly, you don't know how it is going to take google to index it,or how long to optimise, the Christmas trade would have passed before it is seen.

Optimising for Google

Thanks for comments.

I'd be surprised if it is difficult to optimise...

I owned bamboo-flooring.com and optimised for Google.
Reached No.1 on Google.com for the search term 'bamboo flooring' and then sold it.

If you search for 'bands' on www.Yahoo.co.uk, Bands dot co.uk is now No.7
(yes, it is no-where to be seen on Google!)

Unfortunately I've left my MacBook at work, else I would have designed and put up a simple holding page... But next week, I'm up for the challenge, and will see how quickly I can get it indexed!;)

Quite alot of competition for the phrase and some established sites in the top 3 on google :(

Good luck with it anyway whatever you decide to do ;)

Ps I can get a site indexed in 24 hours and My record is 5 hours wey hey lol ! :)

Have you seen that company that sell birthday cards online? They have ads on TV. I think its called MoonPig, dont know how popular it is but if they sell alot people may get used to buying cards online making the opportunity for this domain greater.

I would get it ranked in top 5 in google for 'Christmas cards' and then sell it, because the new owner could start trading instantly and not have to worry about ranking in time for Xmas.

Offering free xmas e-cards as well would surely drum up traffic and inbounds.
