clearstudentdebt.co.uk is an affiliate site set up a by a Brighton student to help pay off his debts. Seems to follow in the footstops of milliondollarhomepage.com by Alex Tew though less ambitious.

But the publicity he has got so far has been good. He was interviewed last week
on BBC London News and had a write up too in the Sunday Times:

The idea is not new but as with a lot of good PR it seems to be in the timing, as there has been quite a lot of new coverage about the extent of student indebtedness and fees in the new recently.

I think I saw that a while back, I got a student debt domain that had quite a highly searched overture, I was looking at finance for students but like travel I hate that industry as well, good luck to him, there is a student site that offers next to no interest loans which appears good.

But why focus on students so much? 90% of this country is being done over by banks and credit companies, get the charges down and we might be able to pay the 'kin things off, I say torch the banks.

But I think thats the point of a good Press Release. If your press release (publicising your domain/affiliate site/web service etc..) can ride on the coat tails of a popular theme or press story running at the time, its more likely to have a significant impact (if thats not stating the obvious). You are right. There is a lot in the press at the moment about student debt, consumer debt etc..

I take your point though about torching the banks. Let us know when you start your campaign so we can register torchthebanks.co.uk in advance and have our PR guru's ready!

There's one thing I hate about the English at the moment, they just sit there and take it, they take everything on their shoulders, it shouldn't be that way, we should fight and fight and fight £30 for going overdrawn by 1p in a month up to three times a month and they wonder why you can never get back on track? 'cause they're nicking £90 off you in one month, I can seriously do harm to the barclay brothers and I wouldn't shed a tear, I'd smile from ear to ear and so would 60% of the country.

Agreed

Dudes,
I agree the banks are c****. I have more credit cards than George Galloway has mates. (2!) No ,more cards than that unfortunately. My fault though.
The Banks were exposed as committing fraud a while ago by the Office Of Fair Trading. For years when the bank or credit card companies have tried to charge me 30 quid for going a couple of quid over i rung them up & said no way. Even before the OFT officially said it is fraudulent & they will be taking steps against the banks & cc companies if they continue. Most of the time, the banks customer service depts gave in & wiped the fee. My argument was you have given me a limit.Do not authorise anything to let me go over , or if you do you are acknowledging there is no limit & can't charge me. You have to get past the stroppy bird to get to the one with people skills ,but worked, usually. Now the OFT has officially said it is illegal it makes it a lot easier but the corrupt shylocks are still doing it.
There was a bloke a while ago (you'll find it if you look on net, cant be fuck8d sorry) he took the cc companies to court of his own back before the ruling saying it was illegal. Legend. He was a maths genius or something , but gave court unequivocable evidence on exactly what it costs them when you go over & what they charge. He had to be right cos it's a brave judge that rules in favour of the ordinary joe. Joe Bloggs won. I wish the judge had made a landmark ruling & said everyone who has been charged x amount by the card companies since year dot are to have all dosh backdated & repaid with interest. Now that would have been real justice!. I'll stop typing now! Cheers, Predator

When I'm in the mood I'm going to ask for mine back as well, I got charged £85 by one creditor to send a final notice letter the other day, I don't care I'm going to court, they don't understand why I'm not crapping myself, I'm just telling them I'll see them in court, they don't know what to say, one company threatened me and I said "you aint getting £250 out of me this month, let's go to court and I'll win, I owe you £500 and £300 is interest and bank charges you can go **** yourself" they said we'll accept £40 a month. haha

I can't give them money I aint got, the banks keep nicking £30 quid off me. That's why I need domain sales, get me on the straight and narrow and out of the country, it's just going to take a bit longer, I think working hard and affiliate marketing and doing £4k+ a month is my salvation not domains alone. Even then I got to pay the taxman after.

Quite a few Alliance and Leicester customers have claimed back bank charges, on the advise of various consumer advise groups.

They bought actions in the County Court (these are civil matters regarding unfair contractual terms). I think in every case the bank backed down and refunded the charges before a case was even heard. However the Alliance and Leicester retaliated by closing their accounts, as it felt the customers concerned were unwilling to comply with their Terms and Conditions. I now gather the OFT is looking into investigating the matter of bank charging.

But this is another theme that is getting quite a bit of press really, along with consumer debt, student debt, debt consolidation, bank charges, and bank profits so there has got to be some good domaining to had from it or perhaps affiliate site or two.

One of the most cynical sites I ever saw though was one criticising the use of premium rate 0870 numbers (and giving tips on how to get round them) while carrying Adense links for.....you guessed it, 0870 number providers! ;)

There was a big article in last sunday's times on this, and the general consensus is that it is illegal.

One customer from Abbey filed a small claims court, and abbey immediately sent them a cheque.

Worth thinking about. I have only ever had 2 or 3 letters, so not worth me chasing it ;)
