Wanted: Domain .com.au domain

I tried to buy a .com.au & .net.au domain today from crazydomains in australia, problem was i need a ABN (Australia Business Number) to buy one.

Does anyone know how to register a .com.au without having to set up a company in australia.

I want the domain to try out some PPC there, build a simple site with a few landing pages, and put an australian phon number on it diverting to my office in the UK. Simlpes!!! NOT

Any one know a way round this? Or is this something that really is required?
