www.comet.co.uk they have a queueing system to use their website, wtf?

What happens next? This page will refresh every 30 seconds to check your place in the queue. We expect the total waiting time to be about 2 minutes. After this time, you will be able to continue as normal and we won't keep you waiting again.

Have noticed problems with currys, pc world sites etc since xmas.

Probably all the people looking to return their xmas presents :)

Demand management.

Though I would have guessed it to be more cost effective to hire in some more capacity...

just tried pcworld at 2325hrs and got a error message, saying there's a queue and to come back later!

I feel it for the affiliates - imagine the lost of revenue.

they all deserve same fate as woolworths
pathetic

No doubt like 90% of every other sorry business that has gone to the wall, they'll blame the resession. When infact the usual poor management is to blame.

Yep no doubt affiliates will have lost a fair bit from it as well.

Queue to get into a store yes but a website

Is that what you call a traffic jam ?

Its near impossible to tell how much we've lost from it, because we don't have any other after christmas sale data that is related enough to compare to it. Comparing against last months Comet conversion rates, the traffic since Xmas is converting at normal, or slightly higher. But I'd have expected it to convert way higher than normal.

I can only really speculate but I guess we have lost a fair chunk I think. Oh well, not like Comet tried it - they lost a tonne too.
