With the exchange rate the best for approx 15yrs, anyone shifting their attention to .com at the moment?

For us in the UK it has to be a buyers market.

Example: Buy a lll.com for $10K = £5K Sit on if for 18-24 months until the rate is back to $1.5 to £1

Sell for $10K = £6600

(Most likely the same name would command a selling price of at least $12K min)

What makes you think the dollar will strengthen over the pound? If anything, the pound's just gonna get stronger and stronger!

Not good for those of us using Dollar-based advertising programs.

Nah labour will be out soon thank god and then bush hopefully

You could do this with memory sticks as well as usually they have a massive flucuation, especially when they have fires in the factories, now where did I hide those matches ;)

** Update

Good point, think I'll put my google on hold

Well, what happens in the USA always happens down the road in the UK. Their housing market is in decline.

I think it will get weaker as the housing market slows down over here and ultimately in some areas goes into decline.

It's a bit like playing the stock market. It's a gamble. But I think even long term it is a good gamble.

Lets say it takes 5 years for it to get to the above exchange rate. You will still make more from selling the domain at the same price you bought it for than you would if your money was lying in the bank, and in 5 years time i'm sure the same domain would command a selling price of at least $13K

Agreed. It sucks!

I wonder if any of the "city boys" are starting to play the market.

Imagine having the backing to buy porn.com for (lets round it up) $10M =£5M

A bit like an interest only mortgage. The revenue would be more than enough to cover the interest payments + a healthy kick back to your backers. Sit on it until the above echange rate and sell. If you sold it for the same price you would be walking away with a cool £750,000 profit.

But I'm sure when you go to sell it would command at least another $1M than what you bought it for.

Where's me lottery ticket from tonight

Foreign exchange rates are pretty much impossible to predict so it would take a brave domainer to try and capitalise on the weak dollar.

Rgds

Forget exchange rates, thats small fry.
The % return on LLL.coms rising in value would be the profitable angle.
They seem to be going up & up

Currency laundering can get you into trouble especially if its say around £10,000 worth of currency.

The flucation between the pound and dollar will rise to 25% to 50% at best so for a 10 grand investment then you might see a nice return of 2 to 5 grand for sitting around with a lot of money in your back pocket.

Best of all though you can have money and not spend it.

Domain values will indeed increase more than currency but at the moment it is a nice field to get into, same as computer memory.

Domain trading is pretty much the same, your buying, sitting and hoping of a decent return.

I had a 6 grand commission from one website yesterday, I honestly dont expect it to be genuine but would be nice so in respects any investment that you make will increase over time.

Very curious - did this come off? And what the hell pays 6 grand commission?

Nah sadly it was a duff sale £105,000 but I have seen one sale that did go through which was about 8 grand from a catalogue firm but sadly that was someone else.

I was hoping that it was going to be genuine as the guy seemed nice when asking for his password but closed down his account now for attempted fraud.

There are a couple of very high earning commissions to be had but just depends if your lucky enough.

There was one a while back where someone booked a honeymoon and it was literally for the whole family and friends so I think at least 50 people went and the commission was enormous.

Rare that something like that happens but every webmaster has his dreams.
