I spell both of those examples as 'centre', I always consider 'center' to be the American spelling and would never use it in the UK.

It's not a UK domain name and it's not in the UK market.

Like I said, I thought there would be people who disagree. However, I think this forum is best suited to specialising in only UK domains (nothing against there being the small section for other extensions though, just not spread around the forum).

I saw the sale myself and thought it was pretty hefty. Perhaps a useful generic for the likes of companies offering colocation services (etc)? I was looking into colocating a server a few months ago and did a lot of searching on terms like 'data centre'. And, yes, I was searching for the 're' variant, possibly stemming from our French heritage. Lots of people do go for the Americanism nowadays though!

There are quite a few companies each spending in excess of $1 billion on building out data centres, so at the top end of the market it's BIIIIIG business. As such, it may be a no-brainer purchase even at the same time as it looks like "a lot of money" to lay out.

There were several data centres exhibiting at Internet World, for example, but can I remember what they were called? Of course I can't - there were over 200 companies at I.W., all with weird made up (brand) names. But had I been after the services of a data centre and I saw DataCenter.com in huge letters emblazoned on a stand, then I'd remember at least ONE of those companies!

I think I've been told before during my school days that centre and center have two meanings in English. But I still use centre for everything bar HTML.

Dont know who dropped/sold it in 2002 but know who sold it in 2011 .. a lot of you guys use'to visit DomainState.com a former mod/owner cracked the jackpot with this one and there were domainers bidding for this name in the high dollar end ..

I bet the company or individual who bought domain this will be gutted if they read this thread…"how could we have been so stupid' they will ask..'if only we had gone on Acorn domains and asked around we would not have wasted our money' …..'We really should have done more research' they will say.

How they ever got in a position to spend so much money on a domain is beyond me….If only they had sought out some of you guys and got the wisdom of your advice it could have been all so different.

Thanks God that British English is not the universal version of the english that is spoken worldwide!

I always prefer north american english, both in talking and writing.
