Decent guide to mashups?

I've got a lot of geo related domains that I want to develop.

At my current rate of development I will be old and grey before they are developed.

Mashups are one way forward, but I know very little about them.

Anyone using mashups successfully. Any suggestions about how to get started?

I would also like to get into APIs and mashups, it's just finding the time, but I feel some brushing up on technology might be necessary before too long.
