Dedicated server for DAC access

Grrr, one of my hosts has just advised that UNLIMITED Parked Domains apparently doesn't stretch as far as 5000 Parked Domains and so I need to move my hosting elsewhere!

So as I've now got a major job of finding and moving everything to a new server I thought I may as well go the whole hog and look for one of these <2ms access to Nominet's DAC servers that other people use...

Anyone fancy giving me any pointers?

You may well find alot of companies suffer with the 5k mark.

Yeah, agreed on a shared server (which was what they're on now) but hopefully shouldn't be a problem on a dedicated server.

Have you considered using a 3rd party dns host ?

Edit: actually that wouldn't help I don't think.

First thing i would say is keep your hosting away from your drop script. Last thing you want is your drop script having to fight for resources as your sites got a burst of traffic!

Next 5k domains is certainly dedicated server teritory.

What kind of traffic do these get?
Do you need mail/db for them?
How much trasnfer do you use currently?
Are you happy to properly manage and secure a server?

I would avoid going the colo route as you are responcible for all hardware issues etc so if a NIC or PSU goes pop at 2AM christmas day thats your problem. Plus unless you have multiple servers or very large servers you really dont benefit from the economies of scale.

Yes, I belatedly realised I didn't clearly explain in the first post what I want to do.

The parked domains and catching script are on different servers, it was only because I'm being forced to move my parked domains that I thought it was also about time I looked into a faster catching server.

So I'm actually looking for two things:

1) A dedicated server for my Parked Domains.
2) Another dedicated server with <2ms access to Nominet for my catching script.

One option is to park my domains on my existing dedicated script server and just move the catching script but I'll PM you some details to see what you think.
