That I would say is a bit of a bargain. Congratulations to the buyer.

People say domain prices are down; variety.co.uk sold for £480 on domainlore in 2012 somehow

Whilst finding that, i found a post from Frank listing some other DL sales in 2012

Choir.co.uk - £261
Expression.co.uk - £740
Baron.co.uk - £501
Cosmic.co.uk - £650
Counsellor.co.uk - £279
Variety.co.uk - £480
Stunt.co.uk - £225

Some of these would go for quite a bit more now.

Off the top of my head I know cosmic.co.uk has since been sold for around £1500 not too long ago

During the .uk consultation buyers didn't know what the outcome would be, .org.uk laying claim based on earlier registration dates, explaining the downturn in prices during that time.

Well it hasn't sold because of shill bidding. Why!? Why would you shill bid when it was already a nice ROI... crazy!

oh yes, oh dear

Seller of variety.co.uk, Mr John Orr of Variety Retail Limited was banned for shill bidding. Exposure details to follow.

On the DL homepage

Simple…… Greed

Very stupid to try and get away with shill bidding against Denys, now his greed has cost him because nobody will want to do business with him again, talk about shooting himself in the foot, and all for a few extra pennies...

Suppose you could always go and make John Orr an offer now it seems he has upset Denys.

Obviously I didn't know of the cancelled auction before commenting, but I'm not looking to make purchases, just think it was a good price, but shame on the seller, so unprofessional.

They've updated their whois to identity protect

I would still buy it

Probably wouldn't be willing to pay as much as they want though.

I think Denys will make sure everybody knows who he is! Not too hard to find his linkedin page.

I can imagine quite a few jumping in with low-ball offers; feel sorry for the buyer who was obviously willing to pay that amount (though morally shouldn't have to). I guess they may still do a deal directly, but could you trust them?

It seems as if it's the same owner that caused all these complaints:

Surely this sort of thing would affect the end price of the domain - especially to run an online business from?

I agree, based on his trading reputation in all areas, i'd say the domain will be associated with all the negative feedback for some time, it will always come up in google searches making it hard to rebuild for a new owner.

Shows it pays to do some research before bidding/buying a name

The seller has probably done everyone a favour by shill bidding.

pretty mediocre domain imho, bummer for some to spell - more like some hope that .com owners etc will come knocking..
