Hi,

Can any of the bright domainers here help me find out what the percentage split of TLD use is in Spain?

I live here and when I listen to the radio and hear a domain being read out as part of an advert its more often !punto com" (.com) than .es. I want to find out what the split is here between .com and .es. I know in the UK we favour .co.uk but my instinct tells me in Spain they are fairly heavy on .com

http://www.dominios.es/dominios/en/...omain-names-registered-spain-are-“es”-domains

The statistics on the “.es” top level domain for April show that of 3,451,863 total domain names registered in Spain, more than half of them, 50.04%, are “.es”. There are now 1,727,169 of this type of domain, one that is clearly identified with Spain and the Spanish language. This is half a million more than the “.com” domains, which rank second at 35.29%, over fourteen percentage points lower. They are followed by “.net” (4.61%), “.org” (3.13%), “.eu” (3.09%), “.cat” (2.17%), “.info” (1.28%) and “.biz” domains (0.38%) ...

dropcycle... spot on sir! Thanks for that pointer! OK so more .es than .com for Spain but not a huge amount in it, clearly both very important. I assume but don't know that in the UK the .co.uk is much more prominent than .com as a percentage.

To be fair, yes you are right its not the same and thats likely just Nominet propoganda as of course they have a vested interest in saying that, what does preference really mean, it reminds me of a dogdy Whiskas advert. Hard registration numbers are facts :).

I guess that shows how many are registered but not really how many are actually in use. Lots of the Spanish firms I've dealt with here in Javea use the .com but have the .es reg'd also. I do it personally also, most of the projects I launch are on .com and I just reg the .co.uk and .uk if available also.

But yeah, it's the same here, most of the advertising I see and hear is for .com, rarely see a .es in print.
